ADHD Awareness Month 2025

October is recognised as ADHD Awareness Month.

This month is dedicated to celebrating the differences found in neurodiversity, with a particular focus on ADHD.

ADHD is usually seen as and related to a lack of attention and focus, hyperactivity, impulsivity, “bad behaviour” in the case of children, focusing on the downsides and without valuing any aspect of this condition.

Focusing not only on its challenges but also on its potential can help avoid stereotyping the condition and discriminating against individuals.

ADHD also brings traits that greatly benefit individuals and society as a whole, especially when they receive the proper support and live in environments that allow them to reach their full potential.

Some of these possible ADHD traits are: showing great creativity, thinking outside the box when solving problems, being always ready for innovation and improvisation, having mental flexibility, having hyperfocus when they are passionate about something, which allows them to work with intensity and achieve high levels of productivity, and being open to trying new experiences. Also, tending to be empathetic and emotionally sensitive, and tending to have good energy levels and an enthusiastic attitude. All of these traits can be truly inspiring for many people.

These upsides may not show the same way in everyone, but are common in many people with ADHD.

Recognising the positive traits of ADHD is key to promoting a more complete understanding of the condition.

It is crucial for individuals to have access to resources, support and environments where they can reach their full potential. Schools, workplaces, and other environments must be ready to accept and value neurodiversity, different ways of thinking and acting, appreciating these differences and pushing individuals to their best version.

In terms of sensory, understanding the person’s sensory profile, having access to sensory-friendly spaces, having schoolmates, teachers or colleagues who are aware of sensory aspects, or having access to tools like Sensory Ladders® and Sensory Spiders can enhance wellbeing in individuals with ADHD.

We would like to invite you to email hello@sensoryproject.org, if you have ADHD or work with individuals with ADHD, and would like to share your experience or any resources or sensory strategies you find helpful.

We will be happy to share it and spread the word with the entire ASI-Wise Community.
