Extenuating Circumstances for Ulster University Submissions
This information is for learners who are submitting their ASI1, ASI2 or ASI3 work to Ulster University.
Extenuating circumstances refer to serious, unexpected situations beyond your control that may have affected your ability to submit your work on time, complete all required work, or submit work to your usual standard.
Please use the examples below as guidance when considering whether your circumstances may be relevant to your submission.
| Examples of Extenuating Circumstances | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Unable to submit work by the deadline | Serious and unexpected circumstances beyond your control prevented you from submitting part or all of your work by the required deadline. |
| Late submission due to unavoidable circumstances | You were unable to submit your work on time because of circumstances that could not reasonably have been predicted, avoided, or prevented. |
| Quality of submitted work was affected | You submitted your work, but your ability to complete it to your usual standard was significantly affected by serious or unexpected circumstances. |
| Unable to complete all required work | You were unable to complete part or all of the required work due to circumstances outside your control. |
| Unforeseeable or unavoidable events | Any serious event that could not reasonably have been foreseen or prevented may be considered an extenuating circumstance. |
| Examples | Family bereavement, serious illness or injury, hospitalisation, significant mental health difficulties, emergency caring responsibilities, a serious personal or family crisis, major travel disruption, or severe technical issues that prevented submission, where supporting evidence can be provided. |
