Ayres’ Sensory Integration with ASI Wise, CLASI and Ulster University
Clear, consistent pathways with the flexibility organisations require.
Clarifying comparisons – all information and prices correct as of 11 September 2025
ASI Wise offers clear, consistent pathways that meet the flexibility organisations require. Our pathway is built on conversation and communication with managers across the NHS, LAs, and other large third-sector organisations. This means our offer is built for purpose; flexible, affordable, with the ability to spread the costs and offer entry-level skills for practice before registration for MSc credits that build towards a full Master’s Advancing Practice Sensory Integration. This award was the first MSc Advancing Practice Sensory Integration in the UK and Ireland.
From the first steps to the advanced level, our MSc Route is delivered in partnership with Ulster University. The design and intent are set out in our Advancing Practice statement. Read about this here
This matters because
- Learners and employers can trust the value of our awards. We have kept credit volumes stable and transparent. A PGCert still represents the same academic volume, mapped to modules, each of which awards university credits.
- NHS Trusts can plan with confidence. A PGCert, PGDip, or MSc with ASI Wise carries consistent weight each year and is explicitly titled MSc Advancing Practice Sensory Integration. Learn more here
- Learners who trained years ago are not disadvantaged. Past learning still maps onto today’s MSc route through our ASI1–ASI3 plus upgrade options to Ulster credit. Learn more here
- Clarity where others differ. Award points can vary between providers. At ASI Wise, we have deliberately avoided shifting where awards sit so that learners and employers get clarity and fairness.
The ASI Wise Certificate and MSc Learning Journies at a Glance
Designed with advancing practice at its heart. The pathway supports people from first steps to advanced practice.
- ASI1 → ASI2 → ASI3 are the Certificate Route steps – each maps to an Ulster University module and credits:
- ASI1 aligns with UUSI1 | OTH817 – 30 master’s credits on the MSc Route.
- ASI2 aligns with UUSI2 | OTH818 – 30 master’s credits on the MSc Route.
- ASI3 aligns with UUSI3 | OTH819 – 30 master’s credits on the MSc Route.
- You can then proceed to complete your Master of Science (MSc) program within Ulster University’s Advancing Practice framework via two research modules and a final dissertation.

Practical assignments linked to the four pillars
Every step builds real capability across clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research, so that “advancing practice” is more than a label.
ASI1 Certificate Route and UUSI1 MSc Route
- Presenting and working-together skills from the start; short peer presentation; reflective linking to neuroscience in practice.
- An individual presentation to an audience of your choice about Sensory Integration and its application in your area of practice.
UUSI1 MSc Route only
- A written referenced case-report from a client on your caseload, linking the neuroscience and sensory integration to participation challenges and strengths.
- Creation of a blog post or leaflet related to your presentation or written case study. See Helen’s incredible project for her UUSI1.
ASI2 Certificate Route and UUSI2 MSc Route
- You will build your EASI and other assessment tool kit, fit for your area of clinical practice and made to measure for your clinical group.
- You will demonstrate in-depth assessment and formulation.
- Testing two children without sensory integration differences with the EASI to understand sensory motor development and practice administration.
- Then, you will comprehensively assess a client from your caseload (a child, adolescent, adult, or older adult), using the EASI, FLIQ, SPM-2, or AASH.
- In your peer tutor group, you will present defensible clinical reasoning(as if to MDT or other professional group), identifying the sensory-motor patterns impacting participation.
UUSI2 MSc Route only
- Your assessment case study is written up as a referenced case report.
ASI3 Certificate Route and UUSI3 MSc Route
- You will comprehensively assess a client from your caseload (a child, adolescent, adult, or older adult), using the EASI, FLIQ, SPM-2, or AASH.
- In your peer tutor group, you will present defensible clinical reasoning(as if to an MDT or other professional group), identify the sensory-motor patterns impacting participation, and showcase your intervention planning before demonstrating via 10-minute video interventions with the fidelity rating of the session explained.
- You will also explore outcomes that matter to people and services.
UUSI3 MSc Route only
- Your intervention case study is written up as a referenced case report, with consideration of outcome measurement and fidelity to Ayres’ Sensory Integration. Your presentation will include intervention planning, from individual therapy to psycho-education, sensory strategies and the role of coaching/consultation via an impact summary for governance.
- You will collect and record user voice and narrative feedback from your client or family member – submission is creative and includes your own reflections.
This pillar mapping is the core of why we provide this pathway and is explained further in our Advancing Practice article.

What is the right Learning Journey for Me?
In answer to requests from therapists and managers, we offer 2 different routes – flexible and affordable – a way to spread costs for tight stautory servcie training annaula personal allocations.
1. Direct MSc route
Often chosen by Band 6 practitioners and above who are ready to progress into advanced practice or specialist roles.
2. Certificate → MSc upgrade route in the future
Ideal for staged entry and cost spreading. Commonly started by Band 5 practitioners when managers need sensory integration skills in practice now, while the next step towards advanced practice is not yet in the personal development plan (PDP).
- Build value from day one – Assignments are recognised from Day 1 on the Certificate Route, and can be used later as part of the completion of each module, once you enrol onto the MSc.
- Better value, credit for credit – On our 2025 schedule, both routes are priced competitively. Please see each route and module page for the latest fees and dates.
- The Certificate route is not a dead end – If you start on the Certificate route, your ASI1 to ASI3 learning and assignments are recognised and eligible for Ulster University credit upgrades. You can upgrade to the MSc within five years, so you are already part-way there.
- Designed with you – Flexible pacing and co-produced learning support help you fit study around work and life.
Emma’s Learning Journey

Emma began her journey in 2018 as a Band 5 OT, completing the ASI1-ASI3 Certificate and learning SIPT with ASI Wise. By 2021, she had transitioned to
the EASI on the ASI Wise part-sponsored conversion module. Then, with the support of her manager, Emma started an MSc pathway just after moving into a Band 6 role in 2023.
Emma’s previous certificate route learning counted towards her MSc modules, allowing her to progress efficiently without repeating work or losing prior NHS Trust investment.
Currently, Emma is finishing her research and dissertation for the MSc Advancing Practice Sensory Integration. Her project is already informing local service improvements and supporting her progression into a new ED Band 7 role.
Summary
ASI Wise offers learners and employers a clear, flexible path to professional development, recognising achievements whether students start with the certificate or upgrade later. Saving time, saving money – flexible pathways to accreditation for practice and advancing practice.
