Ayres' Clinical Observations Across the Lifespan
A Neuro-Affirming Guide to Ayres Clinical Observations Across the Lifespan
Ayres Clinical Observations Across the Lifespan – Neuro-Affirming
Bringing Ayres’ Classic Observations into Today’s Practice
We are delighted to introduce our new publication and workshop on Ayres Clinical Observations (Clin Obs) Across the Lifespan, a fresh development from ASI Wise & Sensory Project.
We are filming Days 2 and 3, and short clips captured from these three days will be included in the manual to support your practice. Manual sales will start in December 2025 and include access to an online support video.
More About the Booklet
Our Ayres Clinical Observations Across the Lifespan | Neuro-Affirming Manual has been designed to support clinicians in using Ayres’ theory in their work with children, young people, adults, and older adults.
Our practical resource offers:
- Clear step-by-step guidance for conducting observations.
- Neuroinclusive interpretation frameworks that honour each person’s unique sensory patterns.
- Needs-based perspectives to map observations directly to meaningful support and intervention.
- Developmental guidelines that reflect both typical pathways and natural variations.
The manual aligns practice with co-production in healthcare settings. It helps therapists recognise individual differences, identify opportunities, and co-produce supportive strategies with the people they work alongside.
The manual, created for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and medical professionals, is hands-on, interactive, and easy to use in everyday practice.
Integrating Sensory Ladders, Spiders, Tracks, and Grids also connects observations with lived experiences, providing a rich, person-centred picture of sensory life that goes beyond diagnosis.
This resource is more than a manual; it’s a practical and affirming tool to support participation, identity, and well-being across the lifespan.
This training builds on Dr. A. Jean Ayres’ pioneering work, expanding her original Clinical Observations beyond childhood to support practice with adolescents and adults. Rooted in Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) principles, our updated approach is neuro-affirming, strengths-based, and co-produced.
The manual costs without postage will be confirmed via quote/invoice, which we will send out on receipt of interest.

About the Workshop
Why this matters
Every person is a sensory being. By observing the subtle ways the body and senses work together, therapists gain meaningful insights into how sensory integration and processing shape everyday participation.
Our updated lifespan framework ensures that observations are:
- Developmentally sensitive – adapted for children, young people, and adults.
- Neuro-affirming – celebrating identity and reducing pathologising language.
- Practical and clinically robust – directly linked to assessment, reasoning, and intervention planning.
- Person-led – supporting collaboration with individuals and families to make sense of sensory differences.
What you will gain
By attending this workshop, you will:
- Learn how to apply Ayres Clinical Observations across childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
- Explore how sensory processing and integration underpin participation and well-being.
- Understand how to frame observations within a neuro-affirming lens.
- Take away practical tools, strategies, and guidance for embedding observations in your everyday practice.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is designed for:
- Occupational therapists and allied health professionals working with children, young people, or adults.
- Practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of Ayres Sensory Integration® in a lifespan context.
- Teams wishing to strengthen co-produced, person-centred approaches in their services.
The Ayres Clinical Observations Across the Lifespan-Neuro-Affirming workshop is live and interactive. Recordings and resources will also be available for those unable to attend on the day.
Book your place now and be part of this exciting step forward in sensory integration practice. Like Day 1, we will be filming Days 2 and 3, and clips from these 3 days will be available as part of the manual. Manual sales will start in November 2025, with delivery at the end of December and include access to online supporting video materials.
