This is a wonderful Christmas activity which involves enjoying all of the sights and smells of the winter season and will end with a wreath that you can hang up in your house!
You can begin this activity as a walk through the woods so that you can forage for moss and tree branches. Aim for evergreen branches, leafy branches and holly if you can find them! You can also add any berries, acorns or pine cones you can find. Take the time to unplug and immerse yourself in nature, noticing everything around you.
Back in the warmth of your home, you may also want to dry some oranges and other fruit. You could buy these at a shop, and you could also get some cinnamon sticks. We want our wreaths to smell wonderfully festive! You could also get some fabric to make a bow with.
You will need:
- Moss
- Tree Branches (evergreen, leafy and holly)
- Oranges to dry, or dried oranges
- Fruit like Cranberries
- Fabric to make a bow with
- Willow, or a wire ring for the base of your wreath
- wire or string to attach things to your wreath
- Now you are ready to start assembling your wreath! Take your willow or wire ring as the base of your wreath and start with some damp moss, using string or flexible wire attach it liberally. A wire hoop may allow you to place the moss inside.
- Top tip: The moss is important because it will keep your wreath looking green and alive!
- You are ready to add the tree branches! Spread them out around your wreath for the best effect.
- After the tree branches, it’s time to decorate. You can add your fruit, berries, anything you’ve foraged and you could tie some fabric in a bow at the base! Remember – your wreath is your own, so decorate it however you feel!
- Pick it up to check your progress – if you feel it’s ready, you can tie your string or wire around the top to make a hanger, so that you can hang it on your door.
