11. Clinical Observations in Schools Through a Sensory Integration Lens, including SOSI-M and COP-R

A practical observation focused workshop exploring what to notice across classrooms, transitions, movement contexts, playgrounds, and self care routines.

Develop stronger observation skills in school contexts, including the use of SOSI-M and COP-R.

This workshop explores observation as a core part of school based sensory integration reasoning. It focuses on what can be noticed across classroom tasks, transitions, playgrounds, group activities, movement opportunities, self care, and times of challenge. SOSI-M and COP-R are included as tools that can support richer observation and interpretation where appropriate.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • describe the role of clinical observation in school based sensory integration reasoning
  • identify what to look for across classroom, transition, playground, and self care contexts
  • discuss how SOSI-M and COP-R may support richer observation
  • reflect on how to move from description to formulation in practice
  • leave with greater confidence in observing purposefully in busy school environments

Participants will learn it through focused teaching on observation, discuss it in practice matched groups, apply it to everyday school situations, reflect on how they currently observe and interpret, and take it back into practice with stronger observational reasoning.
