14. The Movement ABC and Beery VMI Through a Sensory Integration Lens

A practical workshop on interpreting Movement ABC and Beery VMI findings through a sensory integration lens in school-based practice.
Interpret Movement ABC and Beery VMI findings through a sensory integration lens for school-based practice.

This workshop explores how the Movement ABC and Beery VMI can be interpreted through a sensory integration lens in school-based practice. It looks at what these tools help us notice, what they do not fully explain, and how findings may connect with praxis, postural control, visual motor integration, handwriting, PE, classroom tasks, and everyday school routines. Reference may also be made to TVPS-3 and DTVP-3 where useful.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain what the Movement ABC and Beery VMI assess in relation to school participation
  2. Identify the strengths and limitations of these tools when used in isolation
  3. Discuss how findings may connect with praxis, postural control, visual motor integration, and classroom demands
  4. Reflect on how they currently interpret these tools and where sensory motor reasoning may add depth
  5. Leave better able to translate findings into practical school-based recommendations

Participants will learn it through tool focused teaching, discuss it with others using similar assessments, apply it to classroom and school concerns, reflect on interpretation patterns in their own work, and take it back into practice through stronger recommendations. tool-focused
