Congratulations to Helen Brennan on the launch of Self-Regulation: Using a Sensory-Informed Approach, a Matched Care Level 3 perinatal mental health workbook.

Created as part of Helen’s MSc Advancing Practice in Sensory Integration with Ulster University and ASI Wise, this practical, evidence-based resource supports parents and Occupational Therapists in perinatal care. It explains how sensory systems shape behaviour and emotions, and offers compassionate, person-centred strategies to strengthen self-regulation, resilience and relationships. The workbook includes tools from ASI Wise and The Sensory Project, such as Sensory Ladders®, Sensory Spiders and a Sensory Checklist.

Helen has gifted the completed work to her former team at the Cheshire & Mersey Specialist Perinatal Service , and it is now being shared nationally. The workbook will be available via the ASI Wise & Sensory Project Perinatal Community of Practice, in our new community platform for easy download, which Helen and colleagues lead, and for NHS professionals, on the NHSE Futures Perinatal MH Platform. It has also been presented at an ADHD conference in South Africa.

This project is part of the MSc Advancing Practice in Sensory Integration, which Ulster University has delivered with ASI Wise since 2021. It builds on Ulster’s earlier MSc Sensory Integration.

With thanks to everyone who supported Helen’s work. Please share with colleagues.
