Data-Driven Co-Production in Adult Sensory Integration
Sensory Ladders®, Spiders™, and Grids™ in Neurodiverse Adult Mental Health Practice
This poster presents an innovative data-driven, co-production approach to Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) assessment for neurodiverse adults with co-occurring mental health needs. Developed within Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, the comparative case study demonstrates how visual co-production tools, Sensory Ladders®, Sensory Spiders™, and Sensory Grids™, translate EASI and AASH assessment data into meaningful, client-owned and actionable occupational therapy intervention plans.
Grounded in neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented practice, the approach supports occupational justice by valuing sensory identity and lived experience. The use of shared visual frameworks enhances clinical reasoning, multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration, and transparent decision-making, while supporting clients to develop insight, self-regulation, and participation strategies aligned with the PEAR Framework (person–environment–activity–relational response).
This work highlights the clinical value of co-produced sensory integration assessment and intervention for adult mental health services, demonstrating improved engagement, shared understanding, and participation-focused outcomes for autistic and neurodiverse adults.
