Description
This workshop explores observation as a core part of school-based sensory integration reasoning. It focuses on what can be noticed across classroom tasks, transitions, playgrounds, group activities, movement opportunities, self-care, and times of challenge. SOSI-M and COP-R are included as tools that can support richer observation and interpretation where appropriate.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- describe the role of clinical observation in school-based sensory integration reasoning
- identify what to look for across classroom, transition, playground, and self-care contexts
- discuss how SOSI-M and COP-R may support richer observation
- reflect on how to move from description to formulation in practice
- leave with greater confidence in observing purposefully in busy school environments
Participants will learn it through focused teaching on observation, discuss it in practice matched groups, apply it to everyday school situations, reflect on how they currently observe and interpret, and take it back into practice with stronger observational reasoning.
We know that school-based practice can look very different depending on your role, setting, and service model. Our small tutor groups are matched, as far as possible, by professional and practice context, for example, mainstream schools, specialist schools, visiting services, or integrated school-based roles. This helps OT, PT, SLT and wider AHP colleagues explore ideas in ways that feel relevant, supportive, and easier to take back into everyday practice.
Learn it. Discuss it. Apply it. Reflect on it. Take it back into practice.
