Real examples, personal meaning
Look for possibility, not a model answer.
A Sensory Ladder is active co-production. It may begin with words, drawing, photographs, objects, AAC, characters, animals or a simple piece of paper. The form matters only when it helps the person recognise, communicate and use what has been made.
Use this gallery to notice variety. Please do not copy someone else’s personal states, language or supports. Begin again with the person, their communication, their priorities and the part of everyday life they want to make more reachable.
What the examples show
Personal, accessible and ready for ordinary life.
Accessible form
A useful ladder may be drawn, printed, laminated, carried, moved, pointed to or held privately on a phone or in a notebook.
Shared responsibility
Supports can sit with the person, another person, the activity or the environment. Regulation is never only an individual task.
Personal visual language
Drawn, written and shaped from lived experience.
These examples use individual words, colours and layouts. Their value comes from the conversation and reflection behind them, not from visual polish.
Familiar interests
Meaning can begin with what already matters.
Animals, characters and other familiar interests can offer an accessible metaphor. They are chosen with the person rather than assigned to them.
Everyday formats
A ladder can travel into the places it is needed.
Portable, moveable and reusable formats can support communication when spoken words, memory or planning are less available. Privacy and permission still matter.
