Description

RATIONALE  This module introduces the learner to information on direct and indirect assessments including the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI), the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT), and the Sensory Processing Measure (SPM) and more.  AIMS  The module provides hands-on practice, application and review of all aspects of sensory integration including perception, reactivity, postural ocular and bilateral control and praxis, with a variety of assessments, and practice of assessment administration and scoring with peers. Advanced clinical reasoning is developed, while interpreting assessment data systematically, ensuring intervention is planned and implemented, focused, appropriate and effective.

LEARNING OUTCOMES  Successful students will be able to:

1 Determine an assessment plan for a client, including the evaluations appropriate to assess ASI constructs in all areas, considering and analysing the psychometric strength of the evaluations.

2 Reliably administer relevant assessments where relevant including Ayres’ Clin Obs, EASI, SIPT, AASH and SPM, understanding the constructs tested by sensory-related measures. [Designing clinical observations of sensory integration constructs when standardized measures are not possible, demonstrating competence in the application of clinical observations based on ASI.]

3 Describe the patterns of sensory integration function and dysfunction, analysing and interpreting assessment results according to these, relating the data obtained through the application of the instruments with the difficulties of occupational performance of the individual

4 Create the intervention plan based on the evaluation performed, identifying client-centred goals and objectives from presenting concerns linked to the interpretation

5 Determine how the intervention will be conducted, including in various contexts, ensuring the evaluation report meets the standard for structural elements on ASI Intervention Fidelity Measure

CONTENT  COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT IN ASI CLASI CASI MODULE 2 Introducing and orientation to the scope of comprehensive assessment in ASI. Specific methods for assessing core sensory integrative functions. Students are introduced to information on direct and indirect assessments, including the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI) (Mailloux, Parham & Smith Roley, 2016, in the process) and the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) throughwww.wpspublish.com.  Planning intervention when applying the ASI framework.  HANDS-ON COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT IN AYRES SENSORY INTEGRATION CLASI CASI MODULE 3 Hands-on practice, application and review of the constructs of sensory integration and praxis with consideration of a range of assessments and selection of the appropriate assessments for different areas of clinical presentation and practice.  Discussion and reflection will enable Participants to clarify, adapt and adjust test administration as part of practice assessment administration and scoring  CLINICAL REASONING USING ASI CLASI CASI MODULE 4
