Helen Brennan is an experienced Occupational Therapist with over 25 years of clinical practice across neurological rehabilitation, mental health, and specialist perinatal care. Graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2000, Helen developed a strong interest in neuroscience early in her career, which led her to gain a Psychology degree from the Open University in 2007 and a diploma in Craniosacral Therapy in 2014.
As a military spouse, Helen has lived and worked in both the UK and Australia, developing resilience, adaptability, and a deep appreciation of diverse healthcare systems. This experience has shaped her client-centred approach, supporting families and individuals through periods of transition with empathy and creativity.
Helen expanded her career into mental health in 2017, specialising first in young-onset dementia and later in perinatal mental health. She now runs an independent practice that integrates occupational therapy and craniosacral therapy, focusing on supporting parents and families holistically. Her expertise is underpinned by a strong foundation in sensory processing and integration, a theme central to her therapeutic work.
In June 2025, Helen completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Ayres Sensory Integration® and is currently undertaking the ASI Wise and Ulster University MSc programme. Drawing from her clinical experience, she has developed a matched care level 3 workbook, Self-Regulation – Using a Sensory-Informed Approach, which supports parents in achieving occupational balance during the transition to parenthood. Helen has a particular interest in the co-occupation of feeding, including breastfeeding and babywearing.
Helen is also a Perinatal Peer Group Facilitator within the Sensory Project, reflecting her passion for peer support and knowledge sharing.
