Rachel Johnson brings over 30 years of clinical experience to the Sensory Project team, with a career spanning NHS, charity, and education settings. She graduated as an Occupational Therapist from the University of Derby in 1992 and has dedicated much of her career to working with individuals with learning disabilities and mental health needs.
After two decades in the NHS, Rachel transitioned to the charity sector and now works in a specialist school and college, supporting children and young adults with complex learning disabilities—many of whom experience sensory processing challenges. As an Advanced Practitioner and Ayres Sensory Integration® Practitioner, Rachel applies sensory integration principles daily to enable greater participation and engagement in meaningful activities for the individuals she supports.
Rachel is passionate about sharing her expertise to improve clinical practice. She has delivered training, supervision, and consultation widely and has presented at national and international conferences. Alongside her clinical work, she is an advocate for enhancing sensory-informed approaches within educational and therapeutic settings.
Outside of work, Rachel enjoys walking her dog, spending time with family, and exploring the outdoors.
