Description
Community of Practice | Mental Health Special Interest Group
A reflective, supportive space for professionals using sensory integration within mental health services.
This Community of Practice brings together occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and others working across mental health settings — from inpatient wards and crisis teams to community services, supported living, and beyond.
Together, we explore:
- Sensory-based approaches to distress, arousal, and self-regulation
- Trauma-informed and neuro-affirming care
- Person-led sensory assessments and profiles
- The use of tools like Sensory Ladders, Spiders, and Grids
- Co-creating therapeutic environments that support participation, safety, and connection
We share lived experience-informed practice, current research, and practical strategies that support individuals with complex needs, including those navigating diagnoses like BPD, psychosis, PTSD, or severe anxiety, through a relational and embodied lens.
This is a space for discussion, reflection, and co-learning — grounded in the belief that sensory-informed mental health care is more than a toolkit; it’s a way of understanding the world and supporting meaningful engagement in life.
Supportive. Curious. Evidence-informed.
