Jemma Smith is an Occupational Therapist working across the General and Cardiac Intensive Care Units at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. She is particularly passionate about improving the post-ICU experience for patients and their families, advancing non-pharmacological approaches to delirium management, and exploring the role of Occupational Therapy within palliative care.
Jemma is currently completing her MSc in Advancing Practice, where her research interests focus on the impact of prolonged sedation and mechanical ventilation on sensory integration and processing functions. She is actively involved in service development projects within the Bristol Royal Infirmary, including evaluating the impact of OT on patient outcomes at hospital discharge and identifying gaps in rehabilitation provision for post-ICU patients.
As the daughter of Kath Smith, Jemma grew up surrounded by a deep appreciation for Ayres Sensory Integration® and brings this passion into her clinical work. She is committed to promoting sensory integration approaches among healthcare professionals and families and is excited to continue embedding these principles in her critical care practice.
