Mel King (She/ Her)

Lecturer | Mentor | Tutor

Mel qualified as a physiotherapist in 2004 in Wales. She completed junior and senior rotations in the NHS before heading overseas for 3 years travelling and working as a physiotherapist in both New Zealand and Australia. On returning to the UK to the UK Mel spent a few months locuming as a neurological physio before moving to Cornwall and starting work at the Merlin MS Centre where she was first introduced to Ayres Sensory Integration by Kath Smith.

Mel is now the Clinical Lead at the Merlin Centre, running the therapy services for the charity which provides therapy, support and advice for people with neurological conditions.  Over the past 9 years she has worked with Kath developing a sensory integration service for adults and more recently she has worked alongside Kath at her clinic for children and young adults. Excitingly both services are now being brought together at Merlin to provide therapy and ASI therapy for individuals across the lifespan.

Mel has loved studying and learning about ASI and has been lucky enough to observe sessions with Kath to support her learning. She feels passionately that an understanding of the sensory systems underpins all rehabilitation and tries to utilise this knowledge and understanding to benefit all of her clients, both adult and paediatric.
